Under the government's rural electrification programme, REA awarded Muchinda two Grid Extension Project contracts under the 2018/2019 REA work plan. Both were completed several weeks ahead of schedule.

Muchinda was awarded a contract to electrify Sakania and its key community institutions — schools, a clinic and surrounding residences — directly benefiting the Ministry of Energy and Water Development, the Rural Electrification Authority and ZESCO Limited, as well as the local population.
